25/10/2016 Big Exhibits

Today we visited the Big Exhibits and had a brief presentation by Loraine, Naomi and Jean. This was built upon a previous visit by Jean who gave us a little insight into what the company does and the services it produces.

We covered a few points in general when creating an exhibition, starting off with the design brief. The design brief is essential to define the exact specifications and design of the space. It is used to specify limitations, budgets and design ideas between both the client and the worker.
Another important (maybe not in our case) aspect is to have insurance on all your assets including workers and materials.

He also went through several advertising stands that could be used to convey your message on different mediums, these included Portable displays which were self built- Bespoke stands which are manufactured by Big Exhibit themselves and manufactured to the clients needs and to be user-friendly.

Loraine also gave us a quick step to step guide on the design process, this was first planning and sketching a guide on the locations -> technical drawings are created to define the space using real world measurements -> It is then recreated using a 3DS Max and Auto CAD to create a fully detailed visual of how it is going to appear -> Lastly add the "Little details" which were the furniture and flora.

Creating exhibition spaces is a wondrous and rewarding craft, it can be explained in so many ways but as Loraine Stated "Set it up and tear it down in a matter of weeks, It's a thrill"
Whilst walking around I noticed these massive plotters which they use to print large forms of signage. We might need such works for our exhibition.
Then went around the studio as Jean showed us some common materials which they used in their signage and stands which included PVC and Perspex. These can be seen below :
It was a fun experience, we mostly learned on signage which could be used in our own exhibition. Some of the methods and mediums were a little unfeasible in our situation but knowledge of this wouldn't hurt.
